Armenian striker Movsisyan joins Spartak

Spartak Moscow have confirmed the transfer of US-Armenian striker Yura Movsisyan from their Russian Premier League rivals FC Krasnodar.

The contract signing between Spartak and Movsisyan, as well as the official announcement of the move, is expected within the next few days.

Movsisyan will cost Spartak €7.5 million, and will be joining the Moscow squad on a five-year contract, Russia Today reports.

“I always said that my dream is to play in a top club,” the player told FC Krasnodar’s official website. “Spartak are the most titled club in Russia, who have many fans not only in Russia, but abroad as well. I hope that the transfer to the Red-and-Whites will become an important step in my football career.”

“FC Krasnodar will live forever in my heart. I came to the team when we were just getting ready to debut in the Russian Premier League, and I think we were able to win the sympathy of fans with our football, making everybody in the country reckon with us,” Movsisyan added.

The 25-year-old joined FC Krasnodar from Denmark’s Randers for €2 million before the start of the 2011/2012 Premier League championship.

Movsisyan is one of the leading strikers this Russian season, with 9 goals in 13 appearances.

Despite learning the art of football in the US, he opted to play for Armenia at the international level, netting 5 goals in 17 games.
