Constructive involvement of all parties in Karabakh talks key to achieving lasting peace, Armenian FM says

Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan had a meeting with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov in Brussels.

The Foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Elmar Mammadyarov held the first-ever meeting in Brussels after the change of power and formation of new government in Armenia.

OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs Igor Popov (Russia) , Stefan Visconti (France) , Andrew Schofer (USA) and the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk were present at the meeting.

The Armenian Foreign Minister thanked the Co-Chairs for organizing the meeting and highlighted the importance of maintaining the peace process and the dynamics of talks under their auspices.

The meeting was of cognitive character and aimed reveal each other’s views.

Zohrab Mnatsakanyan underlined that there is no alternative to the negotiation process, and stressed the importance of creating an atmosphere conducive to peace, reinforcing trust and taking steps to ease tensions. He also emphasized the importance of commitment to the ceasefire and refusal from warlike rhetoric

He stressed that the realistic and constructive involvement of all parties to the conflict is of primary importance for reaching lasting peace.

The interlocutors exchanged views on a issued related to the negotiation process and the future steps.

The Co-Chairs briefed the Armenian and Azerbaijani FMs on their future plans.
