Second phase of renovation begins at Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex

Armenia’s Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Zhanna Andreasyan, visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex today as the second phase of renovation works officially got underway.

The minister was accompanied by the Ministry’s Secretary General Hasmik Hakobyan and Acting Director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Hrachya Taschyan.

Together with representatives of the project’s design team and the contractor, Andreasyan toured the site and reviewed the progress of the works. She stressed the importance of ensuring high-quality implementation and completing the project within the established timeframe, noting that renovation of the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex requires a particularly high level of responsibility.

The second phase of the project envisages the restoration of three additional pylons of the Temple of Eternity. Renovation of the museum section will also begin in parallel. All construction works are scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.

The memorial complex will remain open to visitors throughout the renovation works.

The first phase of the improvement project was completed in April. It included the restoration of the memorial complex’s central, western and eastern sections, as well as several pylons of the Temple of Eternity. A new drainage system was installed, and waterproofing works were carried out on the pylons and the memorial wall foundations.

The deteriorated waterproofing layer was removed, while the concrete structures of the pylons were reinforced and waterproofed using modern specialized materials. Stone slabs on the rear and side sections were replaced, new paving was laid around the pylons, a new walkway was built along the memorial wall, landscaped areas were improved, and the irrigation system was overhauled.
