Armenia aims to introduce AI modules in over 80% of schools – Minister

Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Armenia Zhanna Andreasyan participated in the “EducAItion 2026” ministerial conference held in Israel, dedicated to shaping personalized education policies in the era of artificial intelligence.

Addressing the conference, the minister emphasized that artificial intelligence is not only transforming approaches to education, but is also becoming a key driver of development in science, the economy, and innovation. She noted that Armenia is actively following global processes related to the integration of AI tools into education systems, while simultaneously developing its own experience in this field.

Zhanna Andreasyan stated that Armenia is among the few countries where pilot AI education programs have already been introduced in schools. She highlighted the AI Generation educational program in high schools, STEP.AI, as well as the multi-level “AI Generation” educational initiative aimed at training AI specialists from school through postgraduate education.

“These initiatives already cover dozens of schools across all regions of Armenia, involving hundreds of teachers and more than 600 students. Over the years, participants have not only strengthened their mathematical and programming skills, but have also acquired AI literacy, critical thinking, teamwork, and innovative problem-solving skills. The programs are currently still in a pilot phase and are being implemented through close cooperation between the state and leading IT companies, reflecting mutual trust and a shared commitment to introducing learners to AI tools at an early stage,” the minister said.

According to the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Armenian universities’ educational programs are focused on providing in-depth knowledge in AI-related fields.

During the speech, reference was also made to international technology events, particularly WCIT 2024, which was held in Armenia for the second time, contributing to the country’s positioning as a technological leader.

Zhanna Andreasyan also presented the activities of the TUMO Center for Creative Technologies, noting efforts to launch a generative AI educational program that will promote comprehensive AI literacy among young people.

“These initiatives in Armenia are not merely educational reforms; they are the pillars of our education system. Geopolitical realities and limited natural resources compel us to make the most of an unlimited resource—the human mind. AI is the key to equal opportunities for us, allowing us to move beyond traditional economies. We are convinced that a new generation of AI will transform the economy and contribute to the effective implementation of digital transformation policies in Armenia. Our duty is to prepare learners not only for today’s demands, but also for tomorrow’s skills, ensuring they become creators of change rather than mere followers,” Andreasyan said.

Concluding her remarks, the minister emphasized that by the end of the decade, AI educational modules are planned to be introduced in more than 80 percent of Armenia’s schools, and graduates of the education system should become creators, not consumers, of artificial intelligence.

The delegation headed by the minister also included the minister’s adviser, Arman Andrikyan.
