Armenia rejects any terminology on transport routes not defined by Yerevan – PM

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan reaffirmed that Armenia does not accept any terminology regarding transportation routes through its territory that is not defined or agreed to by the Armenian government. He made the remarks during a briefing, responding to comments by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who again used the term “Zangezur corridor” and linked Armenia–Türkiye normalization to the Armenia–Azerbaijan peace process.

Asked whether Armenia had received clarification from Azerbaijan regarding its repeated use of the “Zangezur corridor” term, Pashinyan said the issue was clear from Yerevan’s perspective.

“I have said that any communication or route passing through the territory of the Republic of Armenia can be named only by the Republic of Armenia,” the Prime Minister stated. “We have clearly said that in Armenia there is no communication under any name other than what we have defined.”

Pashinyan stressed that Armenia recognizes only the terminology it has adopted itself, including the “Crossroads of Peace” initiative and the TRIPP project introduced following the signing of the Washington Declaration.

“Any other terminology is not applicable to the Republic of Armenia,” he said. “If someone else uses different terms with a different logic, it does not concern Armenia. What we have not accepted, defined, or agreed to cannot be applied to the Republic of Armenia.”

The Prime Minister’s remarks came amid renewed statements from Ankara and Baku referring to the so-called “Zangezur corridor,” a term Armenia has repeatedly rejected as implying an extraterritorial route through its sovereign territory.
