Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan placed in two-month pretrial detention

The Anti-Corruption Court, presided over by Judge Vardges Sargsyan, has ordered the two-month pretrial detention of Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan.

The court granted the motion filed by the Anti-Corruption Committee (ACC) to apply detention as a preventive measure against the mayor.

Earlier, the Committee reported that as a result of extensive operational-intelligence measures and covert investigative actions carried out by its Operational and Intelligence Department, factual data were obtained indicating that the Mayor of Gyumri and the city’s Chief Architect, acting in prior agreement, had demanded and received bribes.

Within the framework of the initiated criminal proceedings, a total of eight individuals have been arrested.

The investigation is ongoing.
