US President Donald Trump says “we didn’t get there” on a Ukraine deal with Vladimir Putin, after a three-hour meeting between the leaders in Alaska.
At a brief appearance before the media after nearly three hours of talks in Alaska on Friday, Trump and Putin said they had made progress on unspecified issues. But they offered no details and took no questions, with the normally loquacious Trump ignoring shouted questions from reporters.
The US president insisted progress was made, while Putin said he is “sincerely interested” in ending the war, without giving details.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky agreed to fly to Washington on Monday, after a “long and substantive” phone call with Trump on Air Force One.
