US President Donald Trump has said he looks forward to hosting the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, at the White House “for a Historic Peace Summit.”
In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump noted that Armenia and Azerbaijan have been at war “for many years, resulting in the deaths of thousands of people,” and praised both leaders for what he described as a courageous step toward lasting peace.
“Many leaders have tried to end the war, with no success — until now, thanks to ‘TRUMP,’” the President wrote. “President Aliyev and Prime Minister Pashinyan will join me at the White House for an official Peace Signing Ceremony,” he said.
According to Trump, the event will also include the signing of bilateral agreements between the United States and each of the two countries to promote economic cooperation and “unlock the potential of the South Caucasus region.”
“I am very proud of these courageous leaders for doing the right thing for the great people of Armenia and Azerbaijan,” Trump said, calling the summit “a historic day for Armenia, Azerbaijan, the United States, and the world.”
