Robert Kocharyan sees no prospect for Armenia to join the EU

Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan does not see a prospect for Armenia to join the European Union.
Speaking at a press conference today, the EU is in a serious crisis today. According to him, it has several components: a leadership crisis, a semantic crisis and an economic crisis. “The European project itself is in a crisis today,” he said.
He said, however, the European Union will not collapse. “The European Union will have to undergo quite serious reforms itself. And first of all, it will freeze all the processes of joining the EU, I have no doubt. They may decide on a couple of mature issues, but the rest will be frozen,” he noted.
Touching upon the processes regarding Armenia’s possible membership in the European Union, he said: “You are going to a place where you are not expected at all, you are going to a place that is quite problematic in itself. And the United States also accepts that it is problematic. There is simply no prospect of joining there, it is zero.”
“You cannot sit on two chairs, they are very far from each other,” Kocharyan added.
