At the request of Armenia, through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism and as a result of the meeting between the Minister of National Defense of Greece Nikos Dendias and his Armenian counterpart Suren Papikyan in Washington on December 4, 2024, an eight-member team of the Technical Services Department of the General Staff of the Hellenic Armed Forces, led by Lieutenant General Mikhail Kluvai, in cooperation with the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, installed temporary modular “Bailey M2” type bridges in the Lori region of Armenia. These were installed in the areas affected by the unprecedented floods in May 2024, the Armenian Embassy in Greece reports.
The 200-meter-long bridge was dismantled in the Sindos area. The bridge was divided into three parts and transported to Armenia.

The first bridge was installed in the village of Karkop (on the Debed River) and the second in the village of Hobardzi (on the small Gargar River).
During a visit to the area, Alaverdi Mayor David Gumashyan expressed gratitude for the work, emphasizing its importance for the region.
The third bridge is expected to be installed in the village of Ayrum, on the Debed River.
The presence of the Greek community in the aforementioned area dates back to the 19th century, especially in the small town of Alaverdi, which today is the center of the Greek community.
