Aliyev says Macron’s ‘megalomania’ to blame for deterioration of relations between Baku and Paris

The megalomania of the government of French President Emmanuel Macron has led to a sharp deterioration in relations between Baku and Paris, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said in an interview with All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK) and RIA Novosti.

“We actively cooperated, many French companies worked here. Our cities became twinned with 13 French cities. But these exorbitant ambitions and the unfounded megalomania of the Macron government, in fact, have thrown all this into the abyss,” he said.

According to Aliyev, France’s interference in the affairs of Armenia and Azerbaijan has rolled relations between Baku and Paris into a crisis. He claims that “France is doing everything to discredit Azerbaijan.”

The Azerbaijani President also accuses Emmanuel Macron of interfering with events in Georgia.

“It’s good that the situation in Georgia is already moving towards stability. And again, you see, Macron’s ears are sticking out. The man can’t sit still in his own country, he definitely needs to get into Georgia,” Aliyev said.
