21st century is the century of countries like Armenia – President

Armenia is a very classical example of a 21st century country, Armenian President Armen Sarkissian said in an address to the Cybertech Europe 2019 conference in Rome.

“It is a very old nation, as old as Rome. We are the first Christian state in the world, we have a huge history, but we have always been a global nation. We have had traders, trading even in early days, in Middle Ages, from China to Samarkand, Bukhara and Manchester, Lyon and Rome,” the President said.

“I do believe that the 21st century is the century of countries like Armenia. Why? Because natural resources are not going to be as important as before. They will still be important, but there will be a chance for something else – innovation, adaptability to the changing world, science, technology and being global. We are a small state, but a global nation. There are three or four times more Armenians living worldwide than in Armenia” President Sarkissian added.

He added that “we have inherited and have a very high level of education in natural sciences, mathematics, physics, etc, and it’s an innovative country.”

“You will find innovative schools in Armenia called TUMO, that are expanding now to Paris, Berlin and Moscow. We have other types of specific schools -Ayb, Quant – each of them having an innovative way of teaching. And that’s the base for the future,” Armen Sarkissian noted.

“I do believe that I am also a President of a startup, and that startup is called Armenia – a young, but an old nation with a lot of skills and now-how, but at the verge of and with an ambition to become big like any startup. I’m very proud to be the President of s startup,  of a country that would like to become a global player in this new 21st century world,” the President said.

He invited the Cybertceh to Armenia, a country which has an agreement with the European Union, and is also a member of the Eurasian Economic Union.
