Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Kristine Ghalechyan met with representatives of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) mission to review the implementation of major road infrastructure projects financed by the bank.
The meeting was also attended by Narek Zulalyan, Deputy Executive Director of the Road Department Foundation, and other foundation officials.
The discussions focused on the progress of ADB-supported road construction projects, upcoming implementation steps, and the legal, financial, and technical issues related to their execution.
Under the Climate and Disaster Resilient and Inclusive Road Sector Improvement Program, Armenia plans to construct the northern 27.1-kilometer section of the Sisian–Kajaran road, part of the North–South Road Corridor. To finance the project, Armenia and the ADB signed a €236 million loan agreement in 2025.
The participants reviewed the project’s current status, the ongoing procurement process, land acquisition activities, and organizational and technical preparations ahead of the start of construction.
“The Asian Development Bank is one of Armenia’s key partners, and the joint projects being implemented in the road infrastructure sector are of strategic importance for the country. I am confident that through continued cooperation and effective coordination, we will be able to advance our joint projects on schedule and ensure their successful implementation,” Deputy Minister Ghalechyan said.
The meeting also covered preparations for the rehabilitation of the Pushkin Tunnel, the construction of a new tunnel in Dilijan, and a new program for the post-disaster rehabilitation and improvement of the M-6 interstate highway. The parties discussed the projects’ technical readiness, financing mechanisms, and the next stages of implementation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation in developing Armenia’s road infrastructure and agreed to maintain close coordination to ensure the timely and effective implementation of joint projects.
