Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air officially inaugurated its new base at Zvartnots International Airport today.
The opening ceremony was attended by Wizz Air Managing Director Roland Tischner, Armenia’s Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan, Chair of the Tourism Committee Lusine Gevorgyan, Director of “Armenia” International Airports” CJSC Marcelo Wende, General Manager Sergey Avetisyan, and other officials.
As part of the expansion, two modern Airbus A321neo aircraft will be permanently based in Yerevan. Compared with previous-generation aircraft, the A321neo delivers 20% lower fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions, along with a 50% reduction in noise levels.
With the opening of the base, Wizz Air is launching eight new European routes from Yerevan: Prague, Hamburg, and Naples (already launched), Paris Beauvais and Paphos (from October 2), Bari and Bucharest (from October 26), and Memmingen (from October 28).
In total, Wizz Air will operate flights from Yerevan to 16 destinations across nine countries, further strengthening Armenia’s connectivity with Europe.
