CoE Secretary General reaffirms readiness to continue close cooperation with Armenian government

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset, who is in Armenia on an official visit.

Welcoming the visit, Prime Minister Pashinyan praised the cooperation with the Council of Europe, emphasizing its role in strengthening democracy, human rights, and the rule of law in Armenia. He expressed gratitude to the Council of Europe for its continued support of democratic reforms underway in the country.

For his part, Secretary General Alain Berset reaffirmed the Council of Europe’s readiness to continue close cooperation with the Armenian government and to support initiatives aimed at developing democratic institutions and protecting human rights. He also congratulated Prime Minister Pashinyan on Armenia’s selection as the host of the European Political Community Summit and COP-17 in 2026, calling it a testament to Armenia’s growing international standing.

During the meeting, the sides discussed key issues on the Armenia–Council of Europe cooperation agenda, as well as prospects for expanding joint programs in the areas of democracy and the rule of law.

They also exchanged views on regional developments and efforts to ensure stability.
