
The petition to initiate a referendum on Armenia’s membership in the European Union has been completed ahead of the anticipated deadline, with 60,000 signatures collected instead of 50,000 requires, Eurovote initiative said in a statement on social media.
“This demonstrates not only the aspiration of Armenian citizens for freedom and national dignity but also the political maturity and unity of our society in support of universal values and a European future,” the statement reads.
The initiators that include political parties and civil society representatives are planning to submit the collected signatures to Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission in the near future. Following the necessary verification, the draft law will be forwarded to the National Assembly of Armenia for consideration.
