Armenia, Iran sign contract on construction of 32lm Agarak-Kajaran road

Armenia and Iran have signed the contract on reconstruction of Agarak-Vardanidzor (about 21 km) road and constriction of the road from Vardanidzor to the tunnel exit (about 11 km) within the framework of the North-South Road Corridor Investment Program-Tranche 4, the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure informs.

The contract was signed by Gor Avetisyan, Executive Director of Road Department Foundation and representatives of Abad Rahan Pars International Group and Tunnel Sadd Ariana joint venture, Ali Mousavi and Alen Yousefyan.

The parties emphasized that the contract will contribute to the implementation of the North-South project.

Within the framework of the ongoing Kajaran-Agarak (border of Iran) reconstruction project, it is planned to reconstruct a total of 32 km road section (Iranian border-Vardanidzor, planned exit of the Kajaran tunnel).

After the reconstruction, the mentioned road section will meet advanced international standards both in terms of road safety, comfort and travel time reduction.

It is planned to build five new intersections, six new flyovers, 2 new tunnels with a total length of 920 meters and 17 new bridges.

The project is financed by the Eurasian Development Bank loan and the Armenian Government.

Construction works are planned to start at the end of 2023 and be completed within three years.
