Armenian government allocates funds to strengthen AI infrastructure

The Armenian government has allocated AMD 957.9 million to strengthen the country’s artificial intelligence capabilities as part of a strategic project to build an AI factory in Armenia.

The funding will be used to acquire high-performance graphics processing unit (GPU) computing capacity from Firebird AI CJSC, the Ministry of High-Tech Industry’s strategic partner in the project.

The decision follows an agreement signed on April 17, 2026, between the Ministry of High-Tech Industry and Firebird AI, an AI cloud and infrastructure company that provides large-scale GPU computing resources for training and deploying advanced artificial intelligence models and conducting scientific research.

Firebird AI announced plans to launch the South Caucasus’ first and largest AI supercomputer in 2026, powered by NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs. According to the government, the project is unprecedented for Armenia and is being implemented exclusively by Firebird AI thanks to its strategic partnerships with international companies, including U.S.-based NVIDIA.

The government said the investment aims to strengthen Armenia’s technological capacity by establishing a modern AI data center based on NVIDIA’s advanced technologies and equipping the country with critical 21st-century digital infrastructure.

The computing resources will support AI startups, research teams, educational institutions, individual specialists and public sector bodies by providing high-performance infrastructure for developing, training and deploying artificial intelligence systems.
