Armenia is currently at a crossroads in determining its future development path, a decision that is important for Russia, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday, TASS reports.
Speaking to reporters, Peskov noted that the Armenian leadership has repeatedly spoken about making a strategic choice regarding the country’s future direction.
“We see that Armenia and its leadership are now at a crossroads. Armenia’s leadership speaks about the upcoming choice of a development path. This is important for us because for many centuries Russia and Armenia have been neighboring countries, brotherly countries,” Peskov said, according to TASS.
The Kremlin spokesman stressed the longstanding historical ties between the two nations, emphasizing that Russia closely follows developments in Armenia.
Russia and Armenia have traditionally enjoyed close political, economic and cultural ties, although relations between the two countries have faced challenges in recent years over a range of regional and security issues.
Moscow has repeatedly stated that it respects Armenia’s sovereign decisions while expressing interest in the future direction of bilateral relations.
