Armenia’s TUMO wins $1 million WISE Prize for Education for its AI co-learner platform

TUMO Center for Creative Technologies has been awarded the prestigious $1 million WISE Prize for Education, securing first place among 427 applicants, with only six finalists making it to the final stage of the competition. The award recognizes groundbreaking initiatives in education with the potential for global impact.

TUMO was honored for its AI co-learner platform and its new generative AI curriculum, both of which were highlighted by the jury as highly innovative, effective, and scalable.

Unlike traditional AI-based teaching tools, TUMO’s system does not position artificial intelligence as an instructor. Instead, it is designed to learn alongside students. When a student grasps a concept, the AI asks for help; when a student struggles, the AI demonstrates first, allowing the learner to follow. This dynamic creates a collaborative learning environment where progress is reinforced through dialogue rather than direct instruction.

According to TUMO, the technology adapts in real time to each learner’s pace, making education more personalized and accessible. The organization describes this approach as a major shift in the future of learning — human-centered, rigorous, and inclusive.

The WISE Prize for Education, awarded annually by the Qatar Foundation’s World Innovation Summit for Education, is considered one of the most influential global recognitions for transformative educational initiatives.
