EU hands over Visa Liberalization Action Plan to Armenia

The European Commission has officially handed over the Visa Liberalization Action Plan (VLAP) to the Government of Armenia, marking a major milestone in the dialogue launched last year between Yerevan and Brussels.

The official handover ceremony took place following a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan and Deputy Director-General for Migration and Home Affairs of the European Commission Johannes Luchner, who headed the visiting EU delegation. Armenia’s Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan and Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Vassilis Maragos, also attended the meeting.

During the discussions, both sides highlighted the achievements recorded since the launch of the visa liberalization dialogue in 2023. As a result, the EU formally transferred the Visa Liberalization Action Plan to the Armenian government.

Deputy Prime Minister Grigoryan reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to ensuring the full and effective implementation of the Action Plan, outlining the reforms already undertaken and those planned in the coming months.

Deputy Director-General Luchner commended the Armenian government’s efforts, noting that Armenia has advanced through the preparatory stages “at the fastest pace” among countries involved in similar processes.

Following the bilateral meeting, the Action Plan was officially handed over by Luchner to Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan, Armenia’s chief negotiator for the visa liberalization process.
