President of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan today received the credentials of Alexandra Pamela Cole, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Armenia.
President Khachaturyan congratulated Ambassador Cole on the start of her diplomatic mission and wished her success. He stressed the importance Armenia attaches to further developing relations with the United Kingdom.
“In recent years, our cooperation has intensified significantly, bringing our bilateral relations to the level of a strategic partnership,” President Khachaturyan noted. He expressed hope that the two sides will soon sign an agreement formalizing this partnership.
Reflecting on Armenia’s development path since independence, the President emphasized the country’s consistent commitment to protecting and advancing democratic principles, despite a complex and challenging journey.
Ambassador Cole thanked President Khachaturyan for the reception and said: “This is a wonderful time to be the UK’s Ambassador to Armenia. I believe our relations have truly improved in recent years, and the decision to elevate them to a strategic partnership gives us many opportunities to work together on issues of mutual interest – grounded in democracy, the rule of law, human rights, and, in particular, sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
During the meeting, the sides discussed regional developments and ongoing efforts to achieve lasting and sustainable peace in the South Caucasus. They also explored new avenues of bilateral cooperation, with particular attention to strengthening collaboration in high-tech industries and cybersecurity.
Other topics included the potential launch of direct flights between London and Yerevan, as well as the importance of boosting parliamentary diplomacy as a means of deepening bilateral ties.
The meeting also touched on major upcoming international events to be hosted by Armenia in 2026, including the European Political Community Summit and the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP-17).
