UEFA highlighted the heartwarming scene in a video titled “Last week’s best fan moment,” showing the boy entering the pitch with Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo himself later shared the video on his Instagram page, where he wrote about the encounter. His post quickly went viral, drawing millions of reactions and further amplifying the attention on the touching exchange.
“I made a new friend yesterday. Grateful for the love and support every single day and I hope everyone gets to follow their dreams!” Christiano wrote.
The boy, Ruben, has hearing and speech impairments. It had been his lifelong dream to meet Cristiano Ronaldo — a dream that finally came true on the night of the Armenia–Portugal match, where Armenia was defeated 5-0.
