Sati Hayrapetyan, a 12th-grade student from Quantum College in Yerevan, Armenia, has been awarded a silver medal at the 21st International Geography Olympiad (iGeo), held in Bangkok, Thailand. The prestigious competition took place from July 26 to August 1 and brought together 179 high school students from 47 countries. Each participating country was represented by a team of up to four students.
Armenia’s national team consisted of four students: Sati Hayrapetyan, Nare Poghosyan, and Hayk Antonyan from Quantum College, and Vahagn Aloyan from Ayb School. The team was led by Vardan Asatryan (National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, Quantum College) and Gor Aleksanyan (Yerevan State University).
The Olympiad challenged participants with three rounds of competition. The first day featured a written response test focusing on theoretical knowledge. The second day involved a fieldwork exam composed of two sub-sections, assessing the students’ analytical skills and application of geographical concepts in real-world contexts. The final day included multimedia tasks designed to test students’ spatial reasoning and interpretation of visual geographical data.
