
The Mother Armenia party has confirmed its earlier willingness to give its votes to the opposition force with most votes in the Gyumri municipal elections.
Representatives of the party made the statement at a press conference.
Ruben Mkhitaryan, the candidate for Mayor from the My Powerful Community party has also announced he is ready to vote for Vardan Ghukasyan from the Communist Party, which came second after almost all ballots were processed.
The ruling Civil Contract party is leading in the Gyumri municipal elections with 16,938 votes after nearly all ballots have been processed. Sarik Minasyan is the party’s candidate for Mayor.
The Communist Party of Armenia led by Vardan Ghukasyan, is the runner up with 9,537 votes.
Our City alliance led by Martun Grigoryan is third with 7,296 votes.
My Strong Community party, with Ruben Mkhitaryan as candidate for Mayor, came in 4th with 3,659 votes.
Mother Armenia alliance garnered 2,844 votes.
Euroalliance received 2,071 votes, Aprelu Yerkir party has 1,658 votes, Democratic Alternative and Armenia’s Workers Socialist Party collected 1,387 and 642 votes, respectively.
According to preliminary results from 81 out of 82 polling stations, five political forces have overcome the threshold – Civil Contract Party, Communist Party, Our City alliance, My Strong Community party and Mother Armenia alliance.
The electoral code stipulates that the threshold for local elections is 4% for parties and 6% for alliances.
Since no one garnered over 50% of votes, the political forces will have to form coalitions to be able to elect a Mayor.
The four opposition parties that will be represented in the City Council political had announced earlier that they would not form a coalition with Civil Contract.
