Russia, US agree to appoint Ambassadors as soon as possible

Russia and the US have agreed to ensure the appointment of Ambassadors to Washington and Moscow as soon as possible, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said after Russia-US talks in Saudi Arabia.

A meeting of deputy foreign ministers will be scheduled in the near future to remove barriers to the work of embassies, he said.

The US State Department said the parties agreed to establish a consultation mechanism to address irritants to bilateral relationship with the objective of taking steps necessary to normalize the operation of our respective diplomatic missions.

Russia and US also agreed to appoint respective high-level teams to begin working on a path to ending the conflict in Ukraine as soon as possible in a way that is enduring, sustainable, and acceptable to all sides.

The parties pledged to remain engaged to make sure the process moves forward in a timely and productive manner.
