Swedish eco-activist Greta Thunberg will lead a protest in Tbilisi against Azerbaijani authoritarianism as Baku is preparing to host the COP29 UN Climate Conference.
Thunberg will be joined by Georgian eco-activists, as well as exiled Azerbaijani investigative journalists, activists, politicians who left Baku due to Ilham Aliyev’s regime and settled in Tbilisi.
The goal is to fight against the authoritarianism spread by Aliyev in the region, organizers of the rally told Public Radio of Armenia correspondent Gita Elibekyan.
“The action is also directed against the authoritarianism of Bidzina Ivanishvili [leader of the ruling Georgian Dream Party]. We must stop the spread of Aliyev’s regime,” said Georgian activist Tamar Jackeli, one of the organizers of the rally.
In an exclusive interview with Public Radio of Armenia earlier this week Greta Thunberg revealed plans to visit Armenia in coming days.
