
France has welcomes Armenia’s hosting of the next Conference of the Parties (COP 17) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in 2026.
“France strongly supported this decision, which was voted on by the Parties to the CBD at COP 16 in Cali. France stands alongside Armenia to make this future COP a success. This new deadline will indeed be decisive for the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal global biodiversity framework,” the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Parties to the UN Convention on Biodiversity (CBD) voted in Colombia last week for its next Conference of Parties (COP), in 2026, to be held in Armenia, which had vied for the privilege with Azerbaijan.
Armenia won with 65 votes out of 123 cast in a secret ballot at the CBD’s 16th Conference of Parties (COP16), the meeting’s president Susana Muhamad announced.
