‘Mandate is a weapon’: Armenia Alliance to take parliamentary seats

Armenia Alliance has announced that it will take up its parliamentary mandates while continuing its political campaign against the ruling authorities, following the Constitutional Court’s decision on the parliamentary elections.

In a statement issued on July 6, the alliance said it maintains that the Constitutional Court’s ruling “does not correct the electoral fraud or resolve the issue of the legitimacy of the emerging government,” arguing that the ruling administration lacks legitimacy.

The alliance stressed that it challenges the government’s right to be represented in the National Assembly and to form a government, rather than the votes received by the opposition. It said the more than 550,000 votes cast for the opposition “for the sake of saving the state” constitute a significant responsibility.

The statement noted that the alliance had previously pledged to coordinate its decision on accepting parliamentary mandates with other opposition forces and to assess all possible scenarios and risks through consultations with political, professional and public circles.

The Armenia Alliance said it does not view parliamentary mandates as positions of privilege but as additional legal and political instruments for resisting the government’s policies.

“A mandate is a weapon, and voluntarily giving it up would be irresponsible toward our state and our voters,” the statement said.

According to the alliance, its parliamentary presence will be used to defend citizens’ rights, raise public concerns, strengthen ties with society and international partners, present alternative policy approaches on international platforms, and help organize broader public resistance.

It concluded that the Constitutional Court’s decision marks “not the end of the struggle, but the beginning of a new, more systematic phase.”

The Armenia Alliance said it will send “an ideological and steadfast political team” to parliament and pledged to continue its political struggle both inside and outside the National Assembly “for a secure and competitive Armenia.”
