Russia ready to facilitate Armenia-Azerbaijan peace deal if needed – Peskov

Russia is ready to assist in the signing of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan if such support is requested, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said during a briefing on Tuesday.

“This agreement is very much needed for stability and a sense of security in the region. For our part, we always emphasize that we are ready to contribute to this process if it is in demand,” Peskov stated.

He also expressed hope that tensions between Yerevan and Baku would not escalate further, noting that the two countries are close to finalizing the peace deal.

“We hope that it will not come to escalation,” Peskov said, responding to a question about recent media reports quoting Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who accused Armenia of committing war crimes during previous escalations in the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict.

“The countries are very close to completing the work on the agreement, and we hope that this work will be finalized soon,” Peskov emphasized, reiterating the importance of the peace deal for ensuring long-term regional stability and security.
