A London-bound plane has crashed shortly after take-off in Ahmedabad, western India, the BBC reports.
Air India says: “Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad-London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today.”
There were 232 passengers and 12 crew members on board, the chief of India’s directorate of civil aviation told the Associated Press.
Tracking website Flightradar24 says it received the last signal from the aircraft at 190m “just seconds after take off.”
The plane appears to have crashed in a residential area.
India’s aviation minister says rescue teams have been mobilized.
