The Russian air defense system shot down six drones and five missiles over the Kursk region, acting governor Alexei Smirnov said on his Telegram channel.
“This night and in the morning in the Kursk region, the air defense forces shot down six Ukrainian drones and five more missiles,” he wrote.
The situation in the Kursk region escalated on the morning of August 6, when Ukrainian units tried to occupy a part of the territory of the Sudzhansk region.
Yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin accused the Ukrainian forces of “large-scale provocation” in the Kursk region.
Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov described the situation as largely under control and said Russian troops “continue to destroy the enemy” in forests near the border.
The US State Department announced earlier that it had no prior information about the attack by the armed forces of Ukraine.
