
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan chaired a consultation to review the results of a study on the country’s wheat value chain and discuss measures to stimulate domestic wheat production.
During the meeting, Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan presented an overview of wheat production and import volumes, the country’s self-sufficiency level, yield indicators, and an analysis of key challenges facing the sector. He also addressed wheat quality, storage capacity, and the findings of the value chain assessment.
Following the presentation of the study’s findings and identified challenges, the minister proposed a set of measures aimed at addressing the issues and strengthening the sector.
Participants highlighted the importance of introducing effective mechanisms to improve the wheat value chain and implementing measures that reflect current developments and emerging trends in the industry. They also stressed the need to adopt a strategy for intensive wheat cultivation.
Emphasizing the importance of increasing domestic wheat production, Prime Minister Pashinyan instructed the relevant authorities to identify unused agricultural land suitable for wheat cultivation, prepare a draft investment program, and submit it for further discussion.
