Armenia diversifying security relations – PM

Armenia is diversifying its security relations, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during a Q&A session at the National Assembly.

“Because our security partners are unable to sell weapons to us, including for objective reasons. This is very transparent, and we speak about this very directly and openly,” PM Pashinyan said.

Therefore, he added, “Armenia has to search for other security allies. “We search and find those partners, trying to conclude agreements, purchase armaments and military equipment,” he said.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Armenia is not going to declare any strategic shift in its defense policy unless it decides to withdraw from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

At the same time, PM Pashinyan said by not participating in CSTO events, Yerevan does not prepare the ground for leaving the organization.

“We decided not to attend these CSTO events for various reasons. I am not preparing the ground for anything, this ground either exists or it doesn’t,” he stated.

According to the Prime Minister stated that the fundamental problem with the CSTO is its “refusal to fix its area of responsibility in Armenia.”
