BBC’s 5Live evacuated live on air – Video

The BBC’s 5Live studios have been evacuated during a live radio broadcast, The Independent reports.

A live stream captured the moment the hosts had to cut short a phone-in when an alarm sounds.

Seconds later an automated message can be heard: “Attention, attention, please evacuate the building by the nearest available exit. Do not use the lift.”

Reporters and staff were ordered to leave the building after an alarm was heard during a live broadcast.
The emergency audio plays an apology for being unable to bring the scheduled radio programme.
It said: ‘This is an You’re listening to BBC Radio 5 Live. We’re sorry we cant’t bring you the scheduled programme at the moment. We’ll return to it as soon as we can.’

Sarah Brett and Nihal Arthanayake were on air at the time.

Around 10 minutes later, the presenters returned to the Salford Quays studio.

“There is no incident,” Ms Brett said, confirming it was a fire alarm. “Everybody is OK.”
