Borussia Dortmund’s midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan suffered a (tarsal bone) injury to his right foot in Saturday’s Bundesliga game against 1.FSV Mainz.
The Armenia international is expected to be out for four weeks, according to BVB team doctor Markus Braun.
Mkhitaryan sustained the injury in the 90th minute when he came off worse in a block tackle with a Mainz defender when taking a shot from 20 yards that eventually hit the post.
On the way back from the game, the 25-year-old felt a lot of pain in his foot and underwent a scan at the Knappschaft Hospital upon the return to Dortmund where the injury was confirmed.
Mkhitaryan has become Borussia Dortmund’s sixth midfielder to be ruled out for a longer period after Marco Reus, Jakub Blaszczykowski, Ilkay Gündogan, Nuri Sahin and Oliver Kirch. The Armenian, who has appeared in 26 of 27 competitive matches for BVB in 2014, could return to action at the end of October.
