The Armenian government has decided to temporarily open the Margara border crossing on the Armenia-Turkey border to facilitate the transportation of humanitarian aid from Armenia to Lebanon through Turkish territory.
Under the decision, the checkpoint will operate from June 12 to June 22, allowing humanitarian cargo destined for Lebanon to transit Turkey.
The government said the move follows working-level discussions between representatives of relevant Armenian and Lebanese authorities, during which the parties agreed to consider the provision of humanitarian assistance from Armenia to Lebanon.
According to the government, the temporary opening of the crossing will create an opportunity to deliver humanitarian aid to Lebanon more quickly and at lower cost.
The Margara crossing, located on Armenia’s border with Turkey, has remained largely closed for regular cross-border traffic. It has, however, been opened on several occasions in recent years for humanitarian purposes.
