
Armenian Ambassador to Greece Tigran Mkrtchyan has met with Christodoulos Topsidis, Governor of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, to discuss prospects for expanding interregional cooperation, economic ties, and connectivity between Armenia and Greece.
During the meeting, the sides explored opportunities to deepen cooperation between regions of the two countries. Ambassador Mkrtchyan emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships between Armenian and Greek regions, highlighting the potential for cooperation between Armenia’s Shirak Province and the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
The ambassador presented the Armenian government’s “Crossroads of Peace” initiative and the TRIPP project, outlining their potential to contribute to the unblocking of regional communications and the creation of new economic opportunities. The discussion also touched upon prospects for exporting Armenian products to European markets and the possible role of Greek infrastructure in facilitating that process.
Governor Topsidis expressed readiness to advance cooperation with Armenia’s regions and underscored the broad opportunities for joint participation in European Union-funded interregional programs. He also presented the strategic importance of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, including the role of the Port of Alexandroupoli and the region’s airport in regional transport and logistics networks.
The interlocutors also highlighted the historic presence of the Armenian community in the region and its contribution to local development. They agreed to continue working together to identify and promote new avenues of cooperation.
