Israel has carried out more air strikes in Gaza and the Lebanese capital of Beirut as people across Israel and the world are remembering last year’s 7 October attacks.
The Israeli Defense Forces says it hit targets throughout the Gaza strip, including a hospital it says was used by Hamas fighters.
The IDF says these command and control centers were used by Hamas to plan attacks against Istaeli troops.
It says it took steps to protect civilians before the strikes, including the use of “precise munitions, aerial surveillance, and additional intelligence information.”
In Beirut, there were huge explosions in the southern suburbs. Israel says it hit Hezbollah weapons storage facilities.
“Lebanon is under a heavy attack,” MP Melhem Khalaf told the BBC. “There was no proportionality in the response of Israel to what is considered as attacks from Hezbollah.”
“Bombing civilians, destroying entire villages, bringing down to earth hundreds of houses and buildings, killing innocents in its attempt to assassinate whomever Israel considers a terrorist,” he said.
Overnight, Israel said it struck Hezbollah weapons and storage facilities in Beirut, setting off secondary explosions.
Ten people were injured in Israel by rockets fired from Lebanon on Sunday, while the IDF says at least four “projectiles” were fired from Gaza on Monday.
People across Israel and the world are remembering last year’s 7 October attacks, in which Hamas killed about 1,200 people and took 251 hostage.
Since then, nearly 42,000 people have been killed during Israel’s campaign in Gaza, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.
