Putin signs law granting immunity to ex-President

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law expanding guarantees for the ex-President and his family, RIA Novosti reports.

The corresponding document was published on the official Internet portal of legal information.

The law was initiated by Member of State Duma Pavel Krasheninnikov and the senator Andrey Klishas. It corresponds to the amendments to the Constitution adopted in the summer.

According to the law, the former head of state is granted immunity: he cannot be brought to criminal or administrative responsibility, detained, arrested, interrogated or searched.

This rule also applies to the residential premises and offices, vehicles, communications, documents, luggage and correspondence. Privileges are granted not only during the presidential term, but also afterwards.
