Armenia condemns recent attacks on the UAE Embassy in Damascus

Armenia has expressed concern over the recent attacks on the UAE Embassy in Damascus.

“The security and inviolability of diplomatic missions and personnel must be upheld at all times in accordance with international law,” the Armenian Foreign Ministry said in a post on X.

Dozens of protesters gathered Friday in front of the embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Damascus. Some attempted to storm the building, and videos posted online showed demonstrators tearing down the UAE flag.

On Saturday, the UAE Foreign Ministry said riots and acts of vandalism occurred outside its diplomatic mission ‌and ‌the residence ‌of its head of mission in Damascus.

The UAE called on Syria to fulfil its obligations to secure the embassy ‌and ‌its staff, ‌investigate the circumstances surrounding ‌the incident and ensure it is not repeated, ‌the ministry said in a statement.

Syria on Sunday condemned an attack on the United Arab Emirates’ Embassy in Damascus, saying “such actions will be met with firm legal measures.”

Peaceful demonstrations are a legitimate right guaranteed by law as a form of expressing opinions, Syria’s Interior Ministry said in a statement.

The ministry affirmed, however, that the attack during recent protests is a “reprehensible and unacceptable act, constituting a clear violation of national laws.”
