The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) continues to view Armenia as an ally and hopes for the country’s return to full participation in the future, CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov said at the summit in Astana.
He said that Armenia’s position was discussed at the meeting in Astana.
“The Republic of Armenia has paused work in the organization, and this reflects the current position of the political leadership of the Republic of Armenia regarding the CSTO. But I must note that this is the decision of an independent, sovereign state, which cannot be influenced by any state or organization. Nevertheless, we believe that Armenia was, is and remains our ally. We hope that Armenia will return to full participation in the Collective Security Treaty Organization in the foreseeable future,” he said.
Tasmagambetov added that the heads of the CSTO member states discussed in detail the military-political situation in the organization’s area of responsibility and possible options for its development. The Secretary General emphasized that the geopolitical transformation and changes that are taking place in the modern international security system directly affect the processes in the CSTO’s area of responsibility.
