Russia’s Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin says “there are no real alternatives comparable to Russian-Armenian allied cooperation, including within the CSTO.”
“Russia remains committed to its obligations to ensure Armenia’s security both bilaterally and through the CSTO,” the Ambassador said in an interview with Izvestia.
Speaking about the normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, Amb. Kopyrkin said “the preparation of any peace treaty is a painstaking and very responsible process.” “Of course, Moscow is interested in soonest establishment of a lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. At the same time, it is important that this fateful document for the region be based on a fair settlement of all mutual concerns, without a “bitter aftertaste” for any of the parties,” he noted.
“Russia is always ready to provide assistance to Armenian and Azerbaijani partners in settling bilateral relations, following the spirit and letter of the trilateral agreements reached between the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan in 2020-2022. The negotiating parties themselves are free to choose the forms and volumes of such assistance. In this regard, we are pleased that productive contacts at the highest level between Armenia and Azerbaijan took place at the BRICS summit in Kazan on October 24, which allowed for a useful impetus to the dialogue on normalizing relations,” the Ambassador said.
