It is Azerbaijan’s responsibility to show before COP29 that it sincerely wants to achieve peace, visiting French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne said at a joint press conference with his Armenian counterpart in Yerevan.
Speaking about regional peace efforts, Minister Sejourne said “France supports the signing of a treaty that is fair and will establish stable peace, respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both countries.”
Referring to the border delimitation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, he said that the agreement reached on August 30 is going in the right direction. “France supports the process based on the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he said.
“The South Caucasus should become a region of peace and cooperation, which will enable trade to develop, and Armenia will also prosper,” Sejourne said. He emphasized that Armenia, France, and the international community want peace.
“Since Azerbaijan will soon host COP29, it is Baku’s responsibility to demonstrate that it genuinely wants to achieve that peace before COP29. I think we should be able to move forward very quickly in this direction,” Sejourne said.
