From Manchester to Yerevan: BBC Radio 4 provides episode guide for “Out of Armenia” program

The BBC provides episode guide for the “Out of Armenia” program to be broadcast on Radio 4 from December 29, 2014 to January 2, 2015.

The journey starts from Manchester, home to Britain’s oldest Armenian community, from where writer and historian Charles Emmerson will travel to Paris.

Guided by an earnest novice monk from the bells of Santa Croce to the Armenian monastery-island of San Lazzaro, in Episode 3 Charles Emmerson continues to Venice on his journey through the Armenian Diaspora of Europe.

The next is Istanbul. The author will refer to slain Turkish Armenian journalist Hrant Dink, editor-in-chief of the Istanbul-based Agos daily.

As Charles Emmerson’s journey through the Armenian Diaspora draws to a close, he travels to Yerevan, the capital of modern Armenia, in the shadow of Mount Ararat. In Yerevan, underground jazz music and Syrian refugees tell a new story, of a new focus for Armenian identity, and fresh challenges to its survival.
