In Armenia today, July 7, the Feast of the Transfiguration of Christ is celebrated, which is one of the five feasts of the Armenian Apostolic Church and is also called the Feast of the Transfiguration or Vardavar. The latter has the name of an old Armenian holiday, from which the custom of splashing water on each other has also been preserved.

The Feast of the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ is the third of the five feasts of the Armenian Church. Our Lord Jesus Christ, according to the Gospel, St. Petros, S. Hakobos and S. John ascends Mount Tabor with the apostles to pray.

At the moment of prayer, Jesus transfigures before them. “The face shone like the sun. and His garments became white as light” (Matthew 17:2, Mark 9:2, Luke 9:29). In front of the amazed eyes of the disciples, Christ speaks about Moses, who died about a thousand years ago, and St. with Elijah the prophet.

S. Luke the evangelist tells that they were talking about the events of the last days of Christ’s earthly life, which were to take place in Jerusalem (Luke 9:31). Delighted by the wonderful view, S. The apostle Peter exclaims: “Reverend, it is good that we stay here. Let us build three booths, one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

While He was speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud announced: “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; listen to Him.” Calming and raising the fallen apostles, Jesus orders them not to tell anyone about what they saw and heard until the Son of God is glorified.

S. Hovhan Voskeberan gives three explanations why St. Moses and S. Elijah the prophets. both had a vision of God: Moses at Sinai (Exodus 24:12-18) and Elijah at Mount Horeb (1 Kings 19:8-18). They mysteriously represented life and death. Moses died without ever seeing the promised land, and Elijah ascended to heaven alive in a chariot of fire.

The appearance of Moses, the zealous lawgiver, and Elijah, the zealous law-keeper taken to heaven during Jesus’ transfiguration, symbolizes that Christ is the Lawgiver and does not break God’s Covenant. He is the Lord of earth and heaven, of the living and the dead, because he raised Moses from the dead, and Elijah from the living.

This holiday is also known as Vardavar. During the festival, one of the folk customs is to sprinkle water on each other and release doves, which symbolize the flood, the salvation of Noah’s family, Noah’s dove. It is also customary to decorate with flowers, which is an expression of great joy on the occasion of the appearance of the glory of God.

The popular name “Rose” probably comes from the practice of pouring rose water.

S. Grigor Tatevatsin explains the name of the holiday “Vardavar” by comparing Jesus to a rose. just as a rose is hidden in its shell until it opens, and when it opens, it is visible to all, so Jesus before the transfiguration carried the divine essence in Himself and, being transfigured, revealed His Divinity.

Vardavar holiday is preceded by a Sabbath. And the next day, like a pavilion after all holidays, is Merelots. S. is offered for the souls of the dead in all churches. Mass and requiem.

RA NA Speaker Alen Simonyan sent a congratulatory message on the occasion of the Constitution Day, in which it is said:

“Dear compatriots,

Law-abiding citizens of the Republic of Armenia,

On July 5, we celebrate the day of our mother law, the Constitution.

29 years ago on this day, many of us, our mothers and sisters, fathers and brothers adopted the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia in a popular referendum, fixing the nature of RA as a sovereign, democratic, legal and social state and declaring the basic rights and freedoms of a person and a citizen.

Article 2 of the Constitution stipulates that the power in the Republic of Armenia belongs to the people. Although some centers and groups regularly attempt to take away this inalienable constitutional right from the people, recent events have again shown the prudence of our people, proving that the power in RA belongs to the people.

Dear compatriots, as the president of the RA National Assembly and as a representative of a political team that has adopted a clear democratic path, I agree with a number of concerns that concern you, that despite the provisions laid down in the Constitution, there are still some legislative gaps in various fields, which are often an inconvenience, and sometimes many of you feel unprotected before the law.

Congratulating the Constitution Day, I want to emphasize again our determination to move forward on the democratic path and assure that the National Assembly will spare no effort in its law-making activities to make your life more prosperous, dignified and comfortable.”

RA President Vahagn Khachaturyan sent a congratulatory message on the occasion of Constitution Day.

“Dear compatriots, I congratulate all of us on the occasion of the Constitution Day of the Republic of Armenia.

The foundational provisions for the establishment and strength of states are few and often lead to the declaration of Independence and adoption of the Constitution. From this point of view, both the September 21, 1991 Independence and the July 5, 1995 Constitutional referendums were expressions of the collective will of the Armenian people to have an independent, sovereign, social and developing state.

During the past three decades, our Constitution has overcome many obstacles, changes and also encroachments, and this is where the essence of the Constitution lies, because it is not a collective document of norms or definitions, formulations and statements, but written and written for the harmony and coexistence of state-society-citizen relations. the Mother Law guaranteeing the unwritten rules.

At the same time, the Constitution is not a declaration of one-time fixing, but a flexible and multi-content instrument that balances the wings of power, reforms implemented in the country, current developments, social and political transition, as it is customary to say, staying in the constitutional course.

In this sense, all the citizens of the Republic of Armenia, and in particular the state officials, should have as a starting point in their activities the very idea of constitutionality, which acts as an orientation, as a guide on the way to build the Armenia of our dreams and aspirations.

Once again, I congratulate all of us on the occasion of the most important holiday of our statehood, I wish endurance and strength, development, strength and prosperity to the Republic of Armenia,” the message states.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan sent a congratulatory message on the occasion of RA Constitution Day, in which, in particular, it is said:

“Dear people, dear citizens of the Republic of Armenia,Today, July 5, we celebrate the Constitution Day. The Constitution is also called the mother law or basic law. They call it the mother law, because in any country with a Constitution, the laws must derive from it, be nourished, nourished by the theses, concepts and provisions of the Constitution.

The constitution is called the basic law because in democratic or democratic countries it is the only or one of the few laws that is usually adopted by popular vote, that is, in this case, the people vote “for” or “against” the law, the people accept or reject it by voting. the parent or fundamental law, the Constitution.

Such legal regulations also operate in the Republic of Armenia, that is, in our country, the people as a whole act as the constitution maker. Why is this and what is the logic behind this? By adopting the Constitution and voting in favor of the Constitution, the citizen and the collective of citizens, the people, first declare that they assume the responsibility of having a state and are ready to bear that responsibility. And in the text of the Constitution itself, the people express their idea of how they imagine that state, its governance, what it should be like in general and what project we will all work on implementing.

And the third, no less important circumstance is that citizens must record in the text of the Constitution the rules of their living in the state they founded and built: citizen-state relations, citizen-law relations, citizen-citizen relations, human-human relations, human-nature relations the rules.

Accordingly, the constitution is the collective agreement of citizens about the rules, rights and responsibilities of living in their own country. The word sovereign, dear citizens of the Republic of Armenia, originates from here. The sovereign is the one who decides the rules for living in a given country. In our country, the people are sovereign and so not only de jure, but also de facto after the People’s Nonviolent Velvet Revolution of 2018. And it is with this fact that our current Constitution is in deep socio-psychological conflict.

Due to the circumstances known to all of us, the RA citizen today does not consider that the Constitution expresses his understanding and agreement about the rules of living with him and his neighbor, his community, himself and the other residents of his state. The citizen believes that the ruling elite created that text, announced its acceptance and, in fact, introduced it in Armenia.

My belief was and remains that this is a fundamental problem for our country, and our country needs a new Constitution, and at the moment I am talking not so much about the new text, but about the new method of its creation and adoption. We need a new Constitution, which the people consider to be what they created, what they accepted, what is written in it is their idea of the state they created and the relations between people and citizens in that state.

We need a Constitution that is organically connected with the constitution maker, the people.

This topic is now much debated both internally and externally. But we must steadily continue on our way to strengthen our state, the Republic of Armenia, and make it invulnerable institutionally, psychologically and physically. This is a difficult but honorable path, and we are on the right path, but in order to pass that path, we need to focus on a specific problem, serving the state interest of the Republic of Armenia, because the state interest of the Republic of Armenia is the interest of the sovereign, that is, the people of the Republic of Armenia. The interest of real people living in real Armenia, who created the Republic of Armenia as a tool to ensure their freedom, well-being, happiness, security, to create a just environment in its internationally recognized territory, and we must not deviate from this goal.

Dear people, dear citizens of the Republic of Armenia, I congratulate all of us on July 5, Constitution Day.
