Four more political forces that participated in Armenia’s June 7 parliamentary elections have filed applications with the Constitutional Court challenging the election results.

The appeals were submitted by the Prosperous Armenia Party, the Wings of Unity Party, the Democracy, Law and Discipline Party, and the Armenia Alliance. The parties are seeking the annulment of the election results.

Earlier, on June 19, the Strong Armenia Alliance also applied to the Constitutional Court, requesting either the annulment of the election results or the holding of a second round of elections.

The Constitutional Court said it will decide on the admissibility of the applications within two days of their submission during a procedural session.

If the applications are accepted for consideration, a reporting judge will be appointed to prepare the cases for examination. Disputes concerning the results of National Assembly elections are reviewed through oral proceedings.

Under Armenian law, the Constitutional Court is required to examine the case and issue a ruling no later than 15 days after the application is filed.

Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission summarized the results of the June 7 parliamentary elections on June 14.

According to the final results, three political forces secured seats in parliament. The Civil Contract Party received 726,819 votes, or 49.7456 percent of the vote. The Strong Armenia Alliance came second with 340,006 votes, or 23.2710 percent, while the Armenia Alliance received 144,983 votes, or 9.9231 percent.

In the newly elected National Assembly, the Civil Contract Party will hold 64 seats, the Strong Armenia Alliance 29 seats, and the Armenia Alliance 12 seats.

Today, the European Commission has disbursed €34 million to Armenia to help mitigate the impact of Russia’s trade restrictions on the country’s private sector. Just two weeks after President von der Leyen’s call with Prime Minister Pashinyan, the EU is delivering swiftly on its commitments to support Armenia and its people.

This financial assistance is the first tranche of a broader package announced by President von der Leyen, which also includes trade facilitation and solidarity measures to strengthen Armenia’s economic resilience.

Building on the commitments made at the EU-Armenia Summit last month, the EU and Armenia will continue working together to strengthen business ties and expand market access for Armenian producers. Additional support will be provided to sectors affected by the trade restrictions, including agri-food products, flower production and other export-oriented industries, through trade initiatives, business matchmaking events and targeted market access initiatives. The EU-Armenia Task Force on Economic Resilience continues to meet regularly to steer and monitor the implementation of these measures.

Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, said: “The EU stands firmly with Armenia – a sovereign, democratic and independent country. Today’s support will help address immediate economic challenges while opening new opportunities for Armenian businesses to trade with regional and European markets. This is European solidarity in action”.

On 5 July, Commissioner Kos will travel to Armenia to advance the implementation of the support package and discuss further steps to strengthen EU-Armenia cooperation.

“Allow me, on behalf of myself and the Czech Republic, to sincerely congratulate you on your victory in the recent parliamentary elections. The outcome of these elections clearly demonstrates the trust that the citizens of your country place in you,” the Czech Prime Minister said.

Babiš recalled his meeting with Pashinyan in Yerevan in May and praised Armenia for hosting the European Political Community Summit.

Russia has sent a diplomatic note of protest to Armenia following the vandalism of a memorial dedicated to the Heroes of World War II in Gyumri, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Thursday.

“This sacrilegious act is not merely hooliganism but a deliberate attack on the historical memory shared by our countries and an attempt to desecrate the Great Victory,” Zakharova stated. “We have, of course, sent a note of protest to the Armenian side.”

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, servicemen from Russia’s 102nd military base stationed in Gyumri immediately joined efforts to restore the memorial. She noted that the Russian Embassy in Yerevan had also publicly condemned the incident.

Zakharova welcomed reports from Armenian law enforcement authorities about the detention of a suspect in connection with the vandalism.

“We expect justice to prevail and that the unlawful actions, which have provoked strong public condemnation in both our countries, will receive an appropriate legal response,” she said.

At the same time, Zakharova criticized the Armenian authorities for what she described as a lack of an official reaction to the incident.

“It is puzzling that Armenia’s official authorities, instead of firmly condemning the desecration of the memorial or at least expressing a clear position, chose to remain silent,” she said.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has indicated that implementation efforts related to the TRIPP (Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity) project should move forward as quickly as possible, even as the agreement remains in the ratification stage.

Responding to a question about the current status of the project and the availability of investment capital, Pashinyan suggested that important preparatory steps are already underway and pointed to recent developments in the United States regarding financing mechanisms.

According to the Prime Minister, the United States has already made a preliminary decision concerning funding and established a fund intended to support the TRIPP project as well as other regional initiatives.

“I may have missed some details due to the election campaign and being on vacation, but the United States has already made at least a preliminary decision regarding financing and has created a fund through which the TRIPP project, along with other regional projects, is expected to be financed,” Pashinyan said.

While noting that he did not wish to cite specific figures to avoid inaccuracies, the Prime Minister emphasized that a substantial amount of funding had been allocated.

Addressing Armenia’s role in the process, Pashinyan stressed that the country would fulfill its obligations and move forward with the necessary steps.

“The document has been signed and is now in the ratification stage, but we should not wait for formalities. We must move forward as quickly as possible. That is both our approach and the approach of the United States,” he said.

Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has approved a request by the Prosecutor General’s Office to lift the immunity of Robert Kocharyan, leader of the Hayastan Alliance.

Speaking to reporters after the CEC session, Kocharyan’s lawyer, Aram Orbelyan, said the former president is expected to be charged with abuse of official authority and money laundering.

Orbelyan stated that the case concerns a transaction carried out in 2004 during Kocharyan’s presidency and approved by the Armenian government. According to the lawyer, the transaction itself has never been challenged and neither Kocharyan nor his family members were involved in it.

He argued that the prosecution is attempting to link the 2004 deal to a later transaction involving Kocharyan’s son, Sedrak Kocharyan, who purchased a stake in the company in 2008, after Kocharyan had left office.

“The case concerns the Master Class tennis complex area,” Orbelyan said, explaining that the land had been leased to a developer that later encountered financial difficulties and sought investors. Sedrak Kocharyan subsequently became involved in the project through an investment.

On June 16, it became known that the Prosecutor’s Office had petitioned the CEC for consent to lift Kocharyan’s immunity.

The Hayastan Alliance, led by Kocharyan, surpassed the electoral threshold in Armenia’s June 7 parliamentary elections and secured 12 seats in the new parliament. As the head of the alliance’s electoral list, Kocharyan enjoys candidate immunity, meaning that the initiation of criminal proceedings and any deprivation of liberty require prior approval from the CEC.

Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has approved a motion submitted by the Prosecutor’s Office to strip parliamentary candidate Davit Ghazinyan of immunity.

According to the authorities, factual evidence obtained through measures carried out by officers of the Anti-Corruption Committee indicated that individuals appointed as responsible persons at the Arabkir district office of the Strong Armenia Party, along with parliamentary candidate Davit Ghazinyan, had allegedly conspired with party supporters and a group of cooperating individuals to promise and distribute electoral bribes to voters.

A criminal proceeding was subsequently initiated by the Anti-Corruption Committee in connection with the alleged vote-buying scheme.

The decision by the CEC paves the way for further legal proceedings against Ghazinyan within the framework of the ongoing investigation.
