Armenian students win two medals at 8th European Junior Olympiad in Informatics

Armenian schoolchildren have won two bronze medals at the 8th European Junior Olympiad in Informatics held in Chisinau, Moldova, on August 16-22. The event featured 98 students from 26 countries.

The format of the Olympiad was similar to the format of the International Olympiad in Informatics, in which participants perform three tasks during two competition days, and each country can be represented by a maximum of four participants.

The Olympic team of Armenia was represented by Tigran Matsakyan and Vahagn Gyozalyan, 9th-grade students of the Physics and Mathematics Specialized School named after Artashes Shahinyan, as well as Arman Kirakosyan, 9th-grade student of Gyumri’s Photon College, and Aren Grigoryan, 8th-grade student of Quantum College. Tigran Matsakyan and Arman Kirakosyan won bronze medals, and Vahagn Gyozalyan was awarded a certificate of commendation.

The team was led by Yerevan State University (YSU) Students Samvel Andreasyan and Samvel Abelyan. YSU lecturer Armen Andreasyan was a member of the Olympic Commission.

The Armenian team had won one gold, one silver and one bronze medal at the 7th European Junior Olympiad in Informatics held in Kutaisi, Georgia.
