Russia restricts imports of Armenian fish and fish products following inspection

Russia has imposed new restrictions on the import of live fish and fish products from Armenia after inspectors identified concerns during a recent audit of the country’s aquaculture sector.

According to Russia’s agricultural watchdog, the Rosselkhoznadzor, inspectors conducted visits to Armenian fish-processing enterprises and trout breeding farms between May 21 and May 27, 2026. The inspection aimed to assess compliance with veterinary and sanitary requirements for exports to the Russian market.

Rosselkhoznadzor reported that approximately half of the enterprises scheduled for inspection declined to undergo the audit.

As a result, Russian authorities have instructed the Armenian side to suspend veterinary certification for exports of live fish and fish products to Russian recipients from all Armenian companies starting June 2, 2026. The restriction will remain in force until the identified issues are resolved.

The measure does not apply to two Armenian fish-processing facilities that successfully completed the inspection. Products from these two enterprises will continue to be allowed into Russia, provided they undergo laboratory monitoring to verify compliance with safety standards.

The Russian regulator stated that the restrictions would remain in place pending further discussions and corrective measures by the Armenian authorities and affected businesses.
