His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, has extended a congratulatory message to Armenians worldwide on the occasion of Republic Day.
In his message issued from the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, the Catholicos conveyed his blessings and congratulations to the Armenian people in the homeland and across the Diaspora.
Marking the establishment of the First Republic of Armenia, Karekin II recalled the heroic battles of Sardarapat, Gharakilisa and Bash Aparan, emphasizing their historic significance for the survival of the Armenian nation. He noted that Catholicos Gevorg V played a decisive role during those existential battles.
The Catholicos praised the bravery of the Armenian people and clergy who fought in the life-and-death struggle and secured for future generations the right to live freely and independently on their native land.
Referring to more recent history, Karekin II stated that devoted sons and daughters of the nation had selflessly defended the homeland in modern times as well, with many sacrificing their lives for the security, dignity and resilience of Armenian statehood.
“Today, as a nation, we bow our heads before our heroes and keep their bright memory alive in our hearts,” the Catholicos said.
Addressing current challenges facing Armenia, he stressed the importance of national unity in the face of both external and internal difficulties, calling on Armenians to strengthen the state together and work for the prosperity of the nation.
Concluding his message, Karekin II prayed for God’s blessing and protection over Armenia and Armenians around the world.
“May the Almighty Lord abundantly bless and steadfastly preserve our country and our Christ-loving people in Armenia and throughout the Diaspora, today and always. Amen,” the message reads.
